Beauty and the Beast is a 1991 American animated musical romantic fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Buena Vista Distribution.
The film was the first animated feature distributed by Buena Vista Pictures, now Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
Beauty and the Beast tells the story of Belle, a young woman in a small French-Belgian village who is taken prisoner by an evil sorcerer taking advantage of her father’s debts. The Beast eventually befriends her, and she helps him reform in exchange for his promise to stay human forever.
A live-action remake starring Emma Watson as Belle was released in March 2017
