Freddie Mercury was a British musician, singer, and songwriter. He is best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen. Mercury’s iconicity earned him worldwide fame, and his flamboyant stage persona made him a pioneering heavy metal singer.
He was born in Zanzibar, Tanzania, on September 5th, 1946, to Elisabeth Forbes and Peter Mercury; he had English, Irish and Moroccan ancestry.
