Paul Robeson was an American athlete, actor, singer, and activist.

He was born in 1898 in Princeton, New Jersey. He was a three-time All-American football player and also a great track and field athlete at Rutgers University. He played in the Negro leagues for several years, first signing with the Newark Bears of the International League in 1925.

In 1926 he traveled to Russia to play for the Moscow Spartakiad team that went on to win first place in its league. His success led him to be signed by the New York Giants later that year where he became their second African American player after Cool Papa Bell. Robeson won four World Series titles with the Giants as well as two Pennant winners.
