E E Cummings was an American poet born in 1894. He is best known for his poetry collection, “Max Allan Collins.
The first son of a mill worker, Cummings became somewhat of a street urchin and ran away from home several times. He dropped out of school in the sixth grade and began working as a newspaper boy to earn food. Later he became an apprentice printer, then worked as a typesetter, proofreader and finally found work at the Associated Press, where he worked until his retirement in 1956.
He never married or had children but was close friends with Sylvia Plath and Robert Lowell, who wrote about their experiences with him in their memoirs. In 1970 he received the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry for his book “A Worn Path.
